To be granted an electronic visa in Vietnam, foreigners need to meet the following conditions:

  • Foreigners enter and exit Vietnam for one of many purposes such as tourism, trade, labor, investment, or marriage.

  • Foreigners who are abroad (not present in Vietnamese territory).

  • Foreigners must have a passport valid for at least 6 months before applying for a Vietnam visa and the passport must be valid.

  • Foreigners do not fall into the cases of entry ban as prescribed in Article 21 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam.

  • Foreigners who are citizens of the countries on the list are eligible for electronic visas according to the provisions of Decree No. 7/2017/ND-CP of the Government of Vietnam.

There are many specified cases where an electronic visa application will not be approved


Foreigners are not eligible for E-visa issuance in cases as per the regulations of Articles 20 and 21 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam and Decree No. 07/2017/ND-CP, which governs the order and procedures for piloting E-visa issuance for foreigners entering Vietnam. These cases include:

  • Passport or international travel documents are no longer valid or damaged.

  • Children under 14 years old who are not accompanied by a parent, guardian, or authorized person.

  • Declare false information, and falsify documents to be granted a valid visa to enter, exit, and reside in Vietnam.

  • People with mental illness or infectious diseases endanger public health.

  • Deported from Vietnam no more than 3 years from the effective date of the deportation decision.

  • Due to disease prevention, natural disasters, national defense, security, social order, and safety.

  • Foreigners are forced to leave Vietnam no later than 6 months from the effective date of the forced exit decision.


To successfully apply for an electronic visa Vietnam, you must adhere to the following regulations and requirements:

  • Valid passport: Your passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from your intended date of entry into Vietnam. Additionally, the passport should have at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps.

  • Passport photo: You will need one recent passport-sized photo that meets the specific Vietnam visa photo regulations. Make sure your photo complies with these guidelines to avoid any processing issues.

  • Digital copies: Prepare digital copies of both the passport photo and the personal information page from your passport. These copies will be essential for the online application process.

  • Bank card: To pay the e-visa fee, you will need a valid bank card that can be used for online transactions. It's important to note that American Express cards are not accepted for e-visa payments.

To apply for an electronic visa Vietnam, you should follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Visit the website of the Immigration Department at “https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/en_US/trang-chu-ttdt”.

  • Step 2: Then you select “E-visa”, then choose the category "For foreigners".

  • Step 3: Read the instructions carefully and check the box “Confirmation of reading carefully instructions and having completed application”.

  • Step 4: Then, click “Next” to move to the following step.

  • Step 5: Follow the provided instructions to upload both your passport photos and the personal information page from your passport.

  • Step 6: Fill in complete personal information in the online declaration, the contents include personal information, expected address of temporary stay in Vietnam, date of entry, border gate of entry, border gate of export information, and contact information (email address, phone number).

  • Step 7: Verify the accuracy of the information, then receive the confirmation code. Remember to save this code because you will need it later.

  • Step 8: Pay the electronic visa Vietnam application fee through the online platform.

  • Step 9: Once the fee has been paid, you will need to revisit the Immigration Department's website a few days later. Here, you can search and enter your registration code, email address, and date of birth separately to check the processing status of your electronic visa.

  • Step 10: When the electronic visa application is approved, you will receive an email with a new link. Click on the link to download it and then print it out.

  • Step 11: Bring your electronic visa Visa and necessary personal documents to enter Vietnam through one of the Vietnamese border gates that you registered above.

  • Processing time: Processing times may vary, so apply for your visa early to allow enough processing time before your travel plans. In some cases, processing time may be longer depending on the number of visa applicants or holidays.

  • The name of the port of entry stated on the electronic visa cannot be changed. You also cannot change information when applying for a Vietnam e-visa or after your visa has been issued. If you want to change your entry gate information, you need to apply for a new visa.

  • Foreigners cannot apply for a Vietnam e-visa in groups, and each visa registration only applies to one person.
